At DUO, our generous staff and volunteers strive to create a better world through kindness and compassion, aiming to alleviate poverty within Durham Region by serving others above one-self, without any thought of race, creed, nationality, religion or politics. Our mission is to alleviate the hunger and hardships people face when they are struggling to take care of themselves, while creating positive and constructive conversation and providing empowerment through food, clothing, temporary shelter and resource facilitation so that participants may secure shelter as well as navigate and self-advocate with other supports within the community. Our Vision is to help those in need of food, clothing and shelter within Durham Region, essentially providing ‘case worker’ type services for those that wish more assistance. With caring and compassion, DUO volunteers/staff may accompany participants to medicalappointments as well as navigate any court/legal proceedings. Our Philosophy is to care for our participants with respect, while enhancing their quality of life by helping to alleviate the hunger and hardships people face when they are struggling to take care of themselves.
